Antique French Petit Confit Terracotta Pot with Yellow Ochre Glaze – 2
An antique French petit confit pot with a soft, lighter yellow ochre glaze and delicate, curved twin handles. The dipped glaze contrasts beautifully with the earthy terracotta, with areas of glaze loss revealing the clay beneath. Firing blisters around the handles and rim give the surface plenty of texture, adding to its rustic character.
Traditionally used in southern French kitchens, confit pots stored cooked meats such as duck and goose beneath a protective layer of fat, helping preserve them before refrigeration. These everyday kitchen vessels are now appreciated for their warm colours, useful proportions and connection to French country life. This example would sit beautifully on a dresser or kitchen shelf, displayed alone or with dried flowers.
